In the 2005 remake of “The Bad News Bears,” Billy Bob Thornton plays Morris Buttermaker, an alcoholic exterminator tasked with coaching a little league team of misfits. Faced with unskilled and unruly players, he’s clearly out of his depth, yet determined to make an impact.

Using unconventional methods, Buttermaker recruits new talent, including a girl pitcher and a rebellious outfielder, to revitalize the team. Amid parental pressure and high expectations, the team of underdogs learns about teamwork and self-respect. The film updates the classic story with modern humor and a darker edge.
