Winterball Baseball benefits the U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots program. To play, baseball players must donate at least one unwrapped toy for the cause.
From the United States Marines and a former Toys for Tots recipient himself, Corporal Quinn braved the conditions to collect toys from children in need this Christmas.
Weymouth Mayor Mike Molisse was also in attendance, as was Massachusetts State Senator Patrick M. O’Connor, a Weymouth native elected to the Senate in 2016, and Kathy Rober Kelly, Elected District 1 Councilor. Councilor at Large Fred Happel, who has supported Winterball each year since the game moved to Weymouth, was also present.
We look forward to seeing you at Winterball 2026.
Event founder Brett Rudy introduced Corporal Quinn Sharrow of the United States Marines, who offered opening remarks based on his experience with the Toys for Tots program.
Councilor at Large Fred Happel, District 1 Councilor Kathy Rober Kelly, Weymouth Mayor Mike Molisse, and Massachusetts State Senator Patrick M. O’Connor threw out ceremonial first pitches at the 2025 Winterball game.
The game itself featured fireballers Kevin O’Leary from the Snow Globe Smashers versus Brett Rudy from the Mistletoe Mashers.
For the Mashers, Rudy retired the first two hitters before Bryan Curran ripped a triple to deep center. An infield miscue let Curran score, and the Smashers hung three festive runs in the first. Thee Smashers added one in the second and one in the third to go up 5 to 0. Tommy McDonough handled the fourth, with Classico Aquino finishing the game for the Mashers.
O’Leary tossed into the 6th innings for the Smashers, keeping the holiday magic going. In the 6th inning, Masher Joe Deveau led off the frame with a single, and he and Dave Treska scored, giving the Mashers a shot at coming back.
In the seventh inning, a leadoff walk and an Aki Nakamura single finally sent O’Leary packing to the North Pole. Jay Thomas wrapped up what was an eventual 7-3 win for the Smashers.
Photos from the game were as festive as expected during the most wonderful time of the year. We can’t thank our umpires enough – Phil Boardman, Curley Peterson, and Carl Rodriguez – who all donated their time (in addition to toys) for the cause!
