2020 Bugs Bunny 80th Anniversary

On July 27, 2020, the U.S. Post Office issued a celebration of Bugs Bunny and the marvelous masquerades he has employed to foil foes over the course of his 80-year career. The sheet of 20 stamps features Bugs in 10 classic costumes – including Bugs warming up to pitch a big-league ballgame – from Baseball Bugs in 1946.

With global star power, Bugs Bunny has graced screens of all sizes from television and movies, to phones and tablets. Eighty 11-minute episodes of the new Looney Tunes Cartoons reintroduce Bugs Bunny along with other marquee Looney Tunes characters in gag-driven shorts that include classic storylines adapted for present-day audiences.

The stamp artwork was created especially for USPS by Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., featuring work from Warner Bros. Animation artists. Greg Breeding designed the stamps, while William J. Gicker served as art director.

The stamps were released on the 80th anniversary of Bugs’ debut in Tex Avery’s 1940 classic, “A Wild Hare. 50 million of each stamp was printed, for a total value of $27.5 million. (Stamp ID# Scott 5502).
