More Than Two Decades In, the Fight Against ALS Continues

The Angel Fund for ALS Research again served as our charitable partner for the 2026 game. The organization supports groundbreaking ALS research led by Dr. Robert Brown and his colleagues at UMass Chan Medical School.

Angel Fund President Rich “Ratt” Kennedy has dedicated more than two decades to raising money for ALS research. After losing his father and two brothers to the disease, Ratt began experiencing symptoms while training for the Boston Marathon in 2016. He was diagnosed with an inherited form of ALS that April.

Ratt and Chief Umpire Walter Bentson, who is also living with ALS, remain at the heart of the event. Walter coordinates the statewide umpiring crews that rotate throughout the game and traditionally returns behind the plate for his annual midnight appearance.

The 23rd annual 100 Innings of Baseball began at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Adams Field in Quincy and concluded at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, October 11. The game lasted 30 hours and 45 minutes, with 81 players registered to participate.

Donations and registration fees raised $42,476.11 for the 2026 game, building on more than $1 million raised since the first game in 2004. Thank you to every player, umpire, donor, volunteer, and supporter who helped keep the game going and the fight against ALS moving forward.

Ironmen (& woman) To Play All 100 Innings

In addition to 19 iron men who played the entire 100 innings, Scot Leslie and Eddie Cody from the Merrimack Valley Marlins played all 100 innings in the field, an extraordinary feat of endurance and commitment to the cause.
