Ground Rule Triple IPA
Ground Rule Triple IPA is built on Bakes Brewing’s refined process and a hopping rate that pushes the limits. Citra, Nelson, and Motueka load it with saturated tropical juice that jumps off the bat.
While, there is actually no such thing as a “Ground Rule Triple” as the name implies, baseball’s rulebook does contain a play that awards the batter three bases: Official Baseball Rule 5.06(b)(4)(C) gives a batter third base if a fielder throws a glove, cap, or any detached equipment and it hits a fair ball. It is most commonly done to try to stop a home run from leaving the stadium or to stop a line drive from going by a fielder. The tossed cap on the label captures that rare moment when chaos meets the rulebook.
Of note: During the 1903 World Series, overflow fans stood in the outfield behind a roped off section. Prior to the game, it was determined that a ball hit under the rope would be a ground-rule triple. But that’s not what was intended with this beer!
