Moving to a new neighborhood, Scotty Smalls is eager to play baseball. The local baseball ace, Benny Rodriguez, mentors Scotty, quickly making him a part of their tight-knit group. Their summer is filled with baseball, treehouse nights, encounters with an enticing lifeguard, clashes with a rival Little League team, and adventures at a fair. The phrase “You’re killing me, Smalls!” punctuates their escapades.

Lurking behind their beloved sandlot, however, is the legend of the Beast—a fearsome ball-eating dog. The kids are soon compelled to face this formidable creature head-on.
