Almost Perfect Amber Ale

Almost Perfect Amber Ale pays tribute to one of the most unforgettable near-misses in baseball history: Armando Galarraga’s almost-perfect game on June 2, 2010. Pitching for the Detroit Tigers, Galarraga retired the first 26 Cleveland batters he faced, needing just one more out to complete the 21st perfect game in Major League history. The final batter, Jason Donald, hit a routine grounder to first baseman Miguel Cabrera, who tossed to Galarraga covering first. The play beat the runner by a full step — but first-base umpire Jim Joyce called Donald safe. Replay instantly showed the call was wrong, and Joyce tearfully admitted the mistake after the game, but under the rules of the era the play stood, and the perfect game became baseball’s most famous “almost.”

This amber ale channels the bittersweet beauty of that moment. Smooth, balanced, and slightly malty, it honors Galarraga’s grace, Joyce’s accountability, and a night where sportsmanship ultimately overshadowed controversy. Almost Perfect Amber Ale celebrates a performance that deserved perfection and a story that remains one of baseball’s most human and unforgettable chapters.
