Milwaukee Fire Department Irish Red Ale

This MFD Collab Irish Red Ale from Broken Bat Brewing honors both the Milwaukee Fire Department and the remarkable life of Jerry Crowley, great-grandfather of Head Brewer Nick Guthrey. A hard-throwing pitcher in the early 1940s, Crowley carved out a 26–14 record across Sheboygan, Green Bay, Macon, and Madison, highlighted by a 15-strikeout pro debut and a dominant 1941 season with 242 punchouts. He later pitched for MFD in the Langsdorf League and earned induction into the Old Time Ballplayers Association of Wisconsin Hall of Fame in 2003.

After baseball, Crowley continued a life of service as a U.S. Marine in World War II and later as a member of the Milwaukee Fire Department. His legacy now lives on in this easy-drinking Irish Red, brewed by his great-grandson as a tribute to Crowley’s career, character, and commitment to community, and to the men and women of Milwaukee Fire Department Local 215.
